Evernote was acquired by Bending Spoons. It is true and authentic news. I cannot imagine the news. At first, I thought it was fake news. But, when I saw the news in the Evernote Blog then I realize that the mighty note-taking app has lost its hope.
I would like to inform you that, I was also a proud user of Evernote since 2006. But, I left Evernote completely at the end of 2021 for Notion and Obsidian. Now, I am happy. But, I become nostalgic when I saw Evernote acquired by other small company.
Evernote is one of the oldest and biggest note-taking app companies in the world. On the other side **Bending Spoons** is a new app-maker company based on Italy. They are small and less popular then Evernote. So, I have a question. “**Why Evernote sold it’s business to a smaller company like Bending Spoons?** Let’s find out the answer in my way.
Why Evernote sold its business to a smaller company like Bending Spoons?
Lack Of Innovation:
In a very article, I wrote about Evernote, I mentioned that this mighty note-taking app company refuses to innovate new features for users.
As a result, Evernote became an old elephant who have no power to fight with new tigers like Obsidian, Roam Research, Notion, Logseq, and even simplest note-taking app from Google “Google Keep”.
Is it true, Evernote refuses to bring more creative ways of taking notes? Maybe, yes or maybe no. Let me explain the full picture.
You should know that Evernote was the king of the note-taking universe. As a result, they charged more money than other note-taking apps. But, what user got from them? Same old boring MS Office-like writing environment/note-taking app which has auto sync in cloud storage and has excellent mobile note-taking app has best-in-class OCR capability and drawing capability.
But, beyond that Evernote has no special features. Many people argue with me that those features are more than enough for most people.
The truth is, those features are very good at certain times, but not in the modern time note-taking ways. As a result, users quit Evernote.
Too Little Too Late:
When Evernote board members realized that most of the note-takes shifting from Evernote only for one reason then they tried to come back as a modern note-taking app like Notion, Obsidian, Roam Research, etc. But, it was too late.
At the time of the COVID-19 Roam Research, Obsidian and Notion become super popular for modern features and workflow. When Roam Research, Obsidian and Notion were gaining popularity Evernote team thought it was time to redesign UI and features.
But, the truth is that Evernote cannot be Roam Research, Obsidian, and Notion. Because, Roam Research, Obsidian, and Notion have modern code-based and future-proof features. So, the empire has fallen. As a result, we have seen the second brain type interconnected linking note-taking system sharply taking the market of the traditional note-taking space.
In the tornado of the modern note-taking app the old giants like Evernote, and Onenote gave up the battle.
Less Users Less Revenue:
When Evernote started to lose its valuable customers the company realized that it is time to end Evernote. Because less user means lees revenue. As a result, they cannot invest more money to research and innovation and develop a good product.
So, the revenue dropped and Evernote become a less profitable company than Bending Spoons. As a result, Bending Spoons bought Evernote.
Is Evernote being discontinued?
Evernote will margins with Bending Spoons in 2023. Bending Spoons has a long experience to make app profitable. But, they do that in their own ways. Evernote till now has a huge user base. I believe, they will make Evernote more user-friendly, and feature-rich and will continue for the beloved users.
Who is the owner of Evernote?
Evernote was created in 2000 by Russian-American computer entrepreneur Stepan Pachikov. But, in now Italian App maker Bending Spoons acquire Evernote. As a result, Bending Spoons is the owner of Evernote now.

Sad News For Evernote And A Lot Of People?
I was in shocked when I read the article in Evernote blog about Bending Spoons is buying Evernote. But, a few moments later I thought, it good news for users and note-taking app love.
Because I believe Bending Spoons will do the right thing with Evernote and its users.
I think, Evernote acquired by Bending Spoons is a good thing for the note-taking universe.
